Micro-outil rotatif sans fil Customize-It MicroLux®

I have only had this MicroLux rotary tool for a couple of days, but I already love it. I have a corded Dremel rotary tool that I have had for many years, and my goal in getting this was to get a replacement for the Dremel that is cordless and smaller. I think I have found what I was looking for. Even though this tool is small, it has the power of a larger tool. I really like that it is small enough to be used in tight spots. I also really like being able to use it outside without having to get out an extension cord.

I just happened to have two projects that I needed a rotary tool for today, so I was able to test it. The first involved some grinding on a small metal rod. I was impressed by how well the small grinding wheel removed material and also by the fact that the wheel itself did not wear noticeably. Some rotary tool grinding wheels I have used in the past have worn quite quickly. The second job involved enlarging some holes in about 3/16" plastic. The bit I used removed the material quickly and left behind smooth holes. The tool got warm after pretty extensive use, but not excessively warm.

There are some things this tool might not be able to do. For example, a while back I bought a circular saw attachment for my Dremel. The manufacturer of this does not offer anything similar; they sell saw blades that fit on a normal mandrel, but not a complete mini circular saw. However, this tool will do almost all of what a Dremel will do. One thing I like is that this tool is very smooth; I feel almost no vibration, unlike with the Dremel. The manufacturer states that this tool grips the entire length of the bit, not just a small section, unlike other rotary tools. This is supposed to reduce run-out (wobbling) which leads to vibration; I don't know if the explanation is accurate, but this tool definitely has very little vibration. One drawback is that the MicroLux tool uses a smaller size bit than the Dremel, so the bits will not interchange. However, this tool comes with a nice selection of bits, so there is no reason to buy any right away.

I keep my Dremel in my motorhome, and one reason I wanted a cordless rotary tool is to get rid of the large case and the weight that comes with the corded Dremel. This unit is much smaller and lighter, and I love the way it works. I am ready to make this my rotary tool of choice and put the Dremel away. This is a great tool and definitely deserves five stars.
