After installation, if an accident occurs, only the easy-to-change plastic transmission gear will need to be replaced (one included; extras available separately, #83452-1). Kit is not for use with R-8 spindles or MicroLux 7x16 Lathe.

Gear change kit when doing Bearing upgrade

This "Kit" was very helpful when removing and upgrading to Angular Contact bearings. The tooling is decent HOWEVER the metal gears you get are very rough. I am worried the two metal gears mounted on the spindle will eat up the nylon gears on the jack shaft. They look like rough cast iron , pitted surface and have a lot of flashing with sharp edges. Will take a lot of time to "De-horn" and clean up before use. Additionally, they give you two gears, a spacer and extended drive keys to provide drive to the main spindle. Other aftermarket gear arrangements (and the original design) utilized a one piece gear assembly with the large and smaller gear at both ends of the single piece gear assembly. (less parts=less issues)
Lastly, no instructions in the box and NO grease or lubrication for the gears.
