Our Spike Insertion Plier is manufactured with special dies that form perfect T-shaped grooves in the jaw faces. Spikes nestle perfectly into these grooves, and only a gentle squeeze of the handles is needed to hold them securely. The nose is specially contoured to push spikes home without slipping off and damaging the railhead or ties, and the comfortable grips let you spike for hours without fatigue. Your trackwork will be smooth and trouble-free. Works with all brands and gauges of spikes Z through O. Custom-made in the USA to our specifications by Xuron.
I have never hand spiked before.
I would NEVER have succeeded w/o this tool. I tried to make my own spiking tool as per magazine articles on the subject but could not get the precision and gripping power this tool has.

An great help with hand laying track.
In the past I drove tiny spikes with a set of needle nose pliers. They did not have the cutout for spikes and bent spikes were simply a fact of life. This pair of pliers has greatly reduced the number of bent spikes and while it takes some carful alignment it can drive micro-spikes reliably. A good tool to have :)
