More Information:
Use for removing, smoothing and shaping steel, brass, aluminum, cast metal, plastic and wood. Can also be used for shaping small turnings while still in the lathe. All files are approximately 5-1/2 inches long with 1/8 inch dia. handles. Sets of 12 with a vinyl storage wallet. Medium cut.
Swiss-pattern files originated from the Swiss inventor and toolmaker F. L. Grobet, who invented the precision file-making machine in 1836. Swiss-pattern files are used for fine shaping and finishing tasks, including working on machine parts and musical instruments. Unlike American-pattern files, Swiss-pattern files are produced and made in very small sizes.
Swiss-pattern files are generally regarded as better at precision filing tasks than American-pattern files because they are produced in smaller dimensions, and they have been used in the watch and jewelry making industries for over 100 years.
