Description:
Frogskin Camo Dark Tan is a rich, earthy brown tone developed to replicate the darker blotches used in the U.S. Marine Corps’ WWII frogskin camouflage pattern. As part of the reversible jungle/beach camo system, this color provided effective disruption against sandy and tropical terrain. It pairs with Frogskin Camo Light Tan as a two-tone system designed for concealment in Pacific Island environments.
Frogskin Camo Dark Tan is in our set Item #29456 U.S. Army Armor & Infantry WWI to Vietnam and the Item #29503 US Military Acrylic Paint Set, 81 pieces.
Color Description:
Frogskin Camo Dark Tan is a deep tan with warm brown and reddish clay undertones. It was applied in blotches over the base Light Tan on the beach side of USMC frogskin uniforms and helmet covers. Its natural soil tone mimics the volcanic sands and dry grasses found on many Pacific battlefields, enhancing camouflage in harsh sunlight.
This color was used prominently in WWII by the U.S. Marine Corps.
• In WWII, it was used in the beach-side pattern of the M1942 reversible frogskin uniforms issued for use in the Solomon Islands, Marianas, and Central Pacific campaigns
• Featured on uniforms, ponchos, and reversible helmet covers
• Surplus gear saw limited use post-war in Korea and during early Vietnam training
Modeling Uses
• Paint accurate USMC WWII beach-side camouflage (pair with Frogskin Light Tan)
• Apply blotch patterns over base tones for helmets, ponchos, and soft gear
• Suitable for tropical terrain dioramas, especially beach and arid settings
• Combine with Light Tan, Olive Drab, or Dust for realistic sun exposure effects
