Ropewalk Rope Making Tool makes scale rope for ship models and many other hobbies.

The Ropewalk will assist in making scale rigging. The laser-cut basswood ropewalk will put a master's touch on ship models with handmade rope. The Ropewalk turns ordinary thread into realistic 3-strand scale rope quickly and easily. No complicated mechanics, bobbins, rails or trucks. The Ropewalk has only two main parts the gear head and the tail end. It lays up (twists) any thread or cordage into high quality rope in all the necessary lengths and diameter to fully rig your model. Best of all, the tool allows experimentation with different cordages to create new rope designs.

Even a novice can do it!

This ropewalk was very easy to assemble. The only issue for me was that I got the gears backwards (because I didn't look at all of the pictures beforehand. Lol, there's a reason why kits say to read all of the instructions first!), but I successfully got the retaining rings off and didn't damage them, so it all worked out fine.
My biggest question for making rope was, "Can I use ordinary sewing thread, if it lays the opposite way as rope?" The answer is yes! I made my first trial rope out of thread, and the thread didn't unravel, and the rope looks fine!
Also, it was very easy to maintain tension (& required very little of it) by hand. And the rope came out perfectly even, which surprised me, considering it's my first attempt :)
I'm looking forward to experimenting with making various diameters and lengths for my scratch-build wood model of USS Cumberland!
