The color reflects the weathered cotton and canvas fabrics of the U.S. Army's standard issue uniforms before the full adoption of olive drab.
Color Description:
US Infantry Khaki Tan is a warm, sun-faded beige with subtle yellow-gray undertones. It replicates the iconic khaki fabric used in U.S. Army uniforms and field gear before the widespread adoption of olive drab. The color reflects aged cotton and canvas worn in combat and training environments from World War I through early Vietnam War deployments.
This color was widely used in the US Infantry from 1917 until the 1970s. In WW1, it was used in service uniforms, canvas gaiters, and puttees of the AEF forces. In WWII, it was used in early-war fatigues, khaki shirts/trousers especially in the Pacific and Mediterranean, and gear like haversacks and ammo belts. In the Korean War, it was used in summer field uniforms and undershirts and faded gear from WWII stock. In Vietnam, it was used in early tropical uniforms, sun-bleached canvas gear, and training apparel
