The flagship of the Imperial Japanese Navy's Combined Fleet, Yamato was one of the most powerfully armed battleships ever built! Laid down in 1937 and launched in August 1940, Yamato menacingly provided troop transport, escort and finally limited battle engagement in the Pacific until she was sunken by U.S. forces in April 1945 off the coast of Kyushu Japan.
