Description
Deck Blue was the standard paint used on the horizontal walking surfaces of U.S. Navy ships during World War II. Developed as part of Navy Measure camouflage systems, this color helped reduce aerial visibility and glare on ship decks. Its cool tone and matte finish made it an essential element in naval concealment strategy across the Pacific and Atlantic theaters.

Deck Blue is in our sets:

29489 US Naval Acrylic Paint Set, 9pc

29503 US Military Acrylic Paint Set, 81pc

Color Description
Deck Blue is a flat, dark blue-gray with desaturated navy and slate undertones. Matched to Navy Standard Paint 20-B, it was formulated to blend with ocean water from above while minimizing light reflection under direct sunlight. Its deep, muted tone provides a weathered, operational look ideal for historic naval builds.

This color was widely used during WWII on U.S. Navy vessels:
• Applied to deck surfaces of battleships, cruisers, destroyers, and carriers under Camouflage Measures 12, 21, and 22
• Helped reduce spotting by enemy aircraft and submarines
• Often paired with vertical Haze Gray and underwater Navy Blue hull paint for a unified stealth scheme

Modeling Uses
• Paint deck surfaces of WWII naval vessels including the USS Enterprise, USS Missouri, and Fletcher-class destroyers
• Combine with Haze Gray and Navy Blue for authentic U.S. Navy camouflage patterns
• Ideal for weathered finishes—use with Dust, Black, or Silver Feather for foot traffic and sea wear effects
• Use in dioramas depicting dockyards, carrier decks, or amphibious operations
