How to Use Micro-Mark Thinner (Brush-On):
- Start with a Small Amount
- Pour a small amount of the thinner into a mixing palette or separate cup.
- Never thin directly in the original paint bottle—this preserves shelf life and consistency.
- Mix with Acrylic Paint
- Use a brush, stir stick, or pipette to combine 1–2 drops of thinner per brush-load of paint.
- Adjust the ratio based on how thin or fluid you want the paint to be.
- For base coats: ~10% thinner
- For washes or glazes: ~30–50% thinner
- Test Before Applying
- Always test the thinned paint on a scrap or hidden area first.
- You’re looking for smooth flow without pigment separation or excessive transparency.
- Apply with a Brush
- Use a fine or medium brush depending on the detail level.
- The thinner helps paint flow into crevices and over textured surfaces evenly.

This medium has been developed to adjust to the consistency of water-based acrylic paints and is designed reduce the paint thickness while preserving color & paint adhesion. Add this thinner to acrylic paint to your preferred consistency. The thinner works well with Micro-Mark’s Brush-On Paints if you want to thin to desired levels. Micro-Mark’s Brush-On Thinner has also been tested with a variety of other brands of water-based acrylic paints with success. Thinning water-based acrylic paints will create a different consistency, colors, and effects (well thinned acrylic paint may look like watercolor). Some may prefer to use acrylic paint without thinning. You don’t need a thinner for all acrylic paint. We understand that users will have different desired levels of paint to thinner. With Micro-Mark’s Brush-On Thinner we like to start with 1/10 thinner/paint and then if needed continue thinning until desired consistency is obtained. Micro-Mark’s Brush-On Thinner has a convenient cap that easily emits drops with control. The bottle has a liner that is sealing the spout to the bottle. Unscrew the cap and puncture the middle of the liner inside of the spout with a small hole by knife point. Replace the spout back on the bottle and dispense as needed.
